Good Faith Estimate
Your right to a cost estimate under the No Surprises Act
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the federal No Surprises Act (Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act), health care providers and facilities are required to give clients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services. This includes psychotherapy services.
When you will receive a Good Faith Estimate
If you are not using insurance to pay for services, you will receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing before your first session.
You may also request a Good Faith Estimate at any time. To request one, contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.
What the Good Faith Estimate will include
The Good Faith Estimate will include:
A description of the services expected to be provided.
The expected cost of each service based on our standard published rates: $135 for the intake session (90791), $120 for ongoing individual sessions (90837), and $175 for couples sessions (90847).
The expected duration of services, based on what we discuss at the start of care.
Any other services that may be reasonably expected as part of your care.
The Good Faith Estimate is an estimate, not a contract. The actual cost may differ if the scope of services changes during the course of care. If the actual cost is significantly higher than the estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
If you have insurance
If you are using BCBSTX or another insurance plan to pay for services, the No Surprises Act Good Faith Estimate requirement does not apply in the same way, because your insurance benefits and any applicable copay or coinsurance will determine your actual cost. However, you may still request information about expected costs at any time.
For BCBSTX clients: Socorro Counseling, PLLC is in-network with BCBSTX as of May 11, 2026. Your cost will be determined by your specific plan, including any deductible, copay, or coinsurance that applies. We can help you understand your benefits during your free consultation.
For clients with other insurance: We are out-of-network. Superbills are available on request for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance.
Dispute resolution
If you are billed more than $400 above your Good Faith Estimate for a particular item or service, you have the right to dispute the bill through the federal Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution process.
